Student Wellbeing

The transition into secondary school is an important milestone in the lives of our students and we want to ensure that this time is well planned and supported so that each student’s transition is as smooth as possible.

The friendly and harmonious climate at the College is a source of pride. The College cherishes individual differences, appreciates the varied learning styles of students, and encourages each student to feel that she can achieve success.

We pride ourselves on the fact that every student at Our Lady of Sion is ‘named and known’. Being known as a person is of vital importance to all human beings. Since we live in an increasingly impersonal world, pastoral care at Our Lady of Sion must consciously strive to maintain the 'Sion Family Spirit'. Each person will be known by name, and in the same biblical sense, know that she or he belongs in the community, with individual differences valued and making a unique contribution to the whole.

The College has an explicit focus on supporting the development of strong, self-reliant, caring and empathetic young women who expect to be change-makers in society. To foster this sense of independence, belonging and empowerment, students have access to a rich College life that includes extensive leadership opportunities, teamwork through the Girls Sport Victoria competition, a large array of music ensembles, STEM experiences and involvement in a significant number of Social Justice initiatives.

Our Lady of Sion College has a proud tradition of ensuring each student is assisted to find their place within the College community. Students’ sense of belonging is nurtured by their involvement in their homeroom and year level activities including camps and retreats. Inter-level relationships are fostered in an extensive array of House events, co-curricular opportunities and our Big Sister–Little Sister program.

Students are supported by their Year Level Coordinator, their Homeroom teacher and the Student Counselling team. Students with particular needs have access to learning and enrichment support. Our Lady of Sion College also offers careers guidance and Work Experience programs.
